Facebook, MySpace 'harming kids' brains'

A lot is being discussed about the good and bad effects of social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace etc. As a class, we recently read the article on this subject.

I tend to agree that social networking sites are driving the kids (and adults too!!) more towards a virtual world. They do limit the physical social circle and bind people on the network. Thus, kids become more self centered and their brain activity decreases.

On the other hand, these sites help in connecting and exchanging ideas amongst friends and others around the globe. They are really useful.

Overall, my take is that a limited and matured use is good.

My fascination - IT

I.T. is all about technology especially computers. I have always been fascinated by computers from the very early years. I love to play computer games. I like to type and I found a “Blogs”cool. Thanks Mrs N. for teaching us how to blog. It’s a great place to write from heart. Our IT class also introduced me to the power of programmes like slide share, wiki spaces, xtranormal and wordle. I had never known that such stuff exists. In our I.T. classes we do quite a few computer projects. Some projects made me more familiar with window movie maker. Overall, my experience with IT in trimester 2 had been great. However, internet connection was a pain at times. I hope the school will do something to improve the connectivity. I did also face some problem because at school we use Apple computers and at home I have Windows Vista. Thus, I could not really enjoy i-move related projects and had to do projects in windows. Can the school not lend us laptops to take home to complete such projects !!! I think I asked for too much...So I will go to sleep now.

This is Malaysia - Truly Asia

I have taken you around my school (ISKL) campus in my previous blog. I am sure you would like to know more about Malaysia. Malaysia is a country adjoining Thailand & Singapore in the South-East Asia. It is multicultural and people of all nationalities live here. Malaysia is very close to the equator (naturally we have warm weather throughout the year!!). I came to Malaysia just 7 months ago. I am fascinated by the beauty of the country ever since I have been here. It is beautiful with wonderful people, hills and beaches, rainforests, huge shopping malls and tasty food as well. The world famous PETRONAS TWIN TOWERS are here and so is the world’s biggest flower -Rafflesia Arnoldii, which is found near the Cameron Highlands. The beaches in Malaysia are awesome and I love to go for Jet Ski, Para sailing and other beach activities. I would encourage you to visit the link below and tell me your opinion about this nice country.

Technology Wordle

Friends, I never knew of this toy for generating “word clouds” from text , called Wordle. Here is my technology Wordle. I have populated this with the technologies we come across in our day to day life at home and at school. I have picked up home entertainment, computing and internet, and building security.
